Marshmallow was finally officially released and people are already asking OEMs for ETAs for Marshmallow OTA. We did a round up of OEMs that we came across promising Marshmallow for selected devices.
Thanks to the folks at gforgames, it is discovered that the LG G3 and G4 will be receiving Marshmallow update even though LG has not officially said anything about those updates as of yet. LG Korea support page for the two aforementioned devices used to contain a category for “Android 6”, along with previous OS versions. However, it has since been taken down but gforgames did managed to grab a screenshot.
The President of HTC America, Jason Mackenzie tweeted the image above on September 29 showing which devices will be receiving Marshmallow. 12 different devices will be receiving the latest platform goodies. They are M9,M9+,M8,E9+,E9, One ME, One E8, One E8 EYE, Butterfly 3,Desire 826,Desire 820,Desire 816. All except for M9 and M8 will be receiving them by the end of the year.
Sony posted a blog post promising 14 devices to be receiving Marshmallow. They are Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4. No ETAs have been given but Sony mentioned that Software rollouts are a phased process – timing and availability will vary by market and/or operator. Most models supported but some operator/market exceptions will apply.
Motorola software has been superb in recent years. Instead of competing with the Operating System, they are instead working hard to complement the ecosystem. With Marshmallow, Motorola will discontinue Motorola Migrate since backing up of user data is now officially supported by Marshmallow. Motorola claims that since there are several similar services in Google Play,Motorola Connect has also been discontinued. 11 different devices has been promised that are listed below.
