Nokia surprises with an Android running N1 tablet

Those who thought that Nokia’s days as a device manufacturer are over, might take a break because in a rather surprising move, Nokia has launched a new Android tablet. Called the Nokia N1, the device is 7.9-inch tablet running Android 5.0 Lollipop and Nokia Z Launcher on top.Moving on, we’re looking at a 7.9-inch slate with 2048×1536 resolution protected by Gorilla Glass 3, and powered by the 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor (PowerVR G6430 GPU clocked at 533MHz), clocked at 2.3 GHz. Additional specs include 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, eight- and five-megapixel camera duo for front and back, aluminum body (6.9mm thick), and a huge 5,300mAh battery.
The Nokia N1 will be launched in China first in Q1 2015 for an estimated price of $249 (without taxes) and in other markets at a later date. image
Nokia’s Android 5.0 Lollipop installation on the Nokia N1 is basically stock, but it ships with a special tablet version of the Z Launcher app that is exclusive to the N1. Buyers can disable it or install other launcher apps if they choose, but Z Launcher is great to have on a tablet, where users tend to install even more apps than they do on smartphones.
We’re not sure if Nokia can survive in a crazy-competitive tablet market, but there is one thing we’re sure of: we can’t wait to try this little beast.
