When you talk about Chinese smartphones, most people would see them as being slow, clones of other devices, or generally not usable. However, that may just be wrong as OEMs like Elephone show that MediaTek devices can indeed perform and get updates. Elephone has released the following video showing Android 5.1 running on the yet to be released P4000:
As you may already know, Elephone has already released an albeit stable but may-be-unstable Android 5.0 ROM for the P6000, and have already begun building custom ROMs for their other newer devices. As MediaTek sources are extremely hard to work with, it is certainly an impressive feat (MediaTek themselves couldn’t get Android 5’s sources to work).
