A quick look at Remix OS!

Remix OS by a Chinese company,Jide, has been making the news recently and they have came a long way from their kickstarter to today’s official release of Remix OS. Let’s take a quick look at what Jide has to offer in their take on Android on the Desktop front.

Disclaimer: I am not running this OS on bare metal, instead running on VMware Workstation 10 on Windows 10.

Booting up for the first time, I had issues booting through Resident mode however booting through Guest mode works fine. Though the disadvantage of booting through Guest mode is that all your apps and data settings do not stick on reboot.

The OS might not be suited for everyone since there are no Google Apps except Google Pinyin language, though you can sideload apps or you can get it through the Chinese Apps market which came preinstalled.

Remix OS is currently running on Android 5.1.1 and it is unknown when Marshmallow would arrive.

The download for the ISO is over here.

Will they rival OS X, Windows, GNU/Linux distributions out there? Only time will tell. What do you think of Remix OS? Will it succeed on the desktop front or will it forever stay on phones/tablets?
